Jason Mraz: I Won’t Give Up (New Music)
It’s been four years since Jason Mraz released the album that catapulted him in to the big time off the back of the massive sleeper hit I’m Yours. The 34 year old singer is back in 2012, gearing up for the release of what will be his fourth studio album. This brand new track I Won’t Give Up gives us our first idea of what to expect.
When I first heard that he was retaining the sound from We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things for the new release, I was a little gutted to be honest. Mraz is now more well known for being a laid back artist like Jack Johnson, rather than the beatboxing wise-cracking pop star in the making who I first heard back in 2006. Tracks such as Wordplay and Geek In The Pink from his earlier albums now seem destined to remain firmly in the past.
However I Won’t Give Up is so much better than anything I expected to hear. It is a rousing, acoustic ballad that oozes emotion. I can’t imagine it translating in to the same kind of sales that I’m Yours had over here - it did after all have the longest Top 75 run in UK chart history for a song that didn’t go Top 10 - but it bodes well for his return later this year.
