Missy Higgins: Unashamed Desire (Official Music Video)
Following a self-imposed exile from music after releasing and promoting her 2009 sophomore album ‘On A Clear Night’, Melbourne-born singer Missy Higgins has returned with a new look, a new single and a new video.
‘Unashamed Desire’ is the first track to be lifted from the 28 year old’s forthcoming album ‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle’ and it’s a triumphant return to form for the singer who scored two Australian chart toppers with the absolutely brilliant ‘Scar’ and ‘Steer’.
‘Unashamed Desire’ was co-written by Higgins and fellow Australian musician Butterfly Boucher who also co-produced the new album with Brad Jones.
Like Gotye’s smash ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, the track has a quasi-acoustic feel to it and is reliant primarily on what sounds like the entire percussion section of an orchestra and Higgins’ impressive vocals to give the repetitive lyrics a beginning, middle and an end. No mean feat, but one that she does without batting an eyelid.
Sporting a new blonde bob in the video where she is stripped of her clothes by wandering hands, this is certainly a top quality comeback from the girl who’s 2004 debut album ‘The Sound Of White’ sold over 630,000 copies and earned her a total of 13 Aria Award nominations in 2004 and 2005, six of which she won.
The time away seems to have given Higgins a renewed confidence, and one that she’s clearly proud to show off in both the clip and the song’s lyrics.
Whilst it is unlikely to receive an official single UK release, the good news is that, if you like ‘Unashamed Desire’, you can download it now from UK iTunes. Enjoy!
