fun.: Some Nights (Official Music Video)

New York alternative rock band fun. scored a surprise smash hit earlier this year, when ‘We Are Young’ soared to the top of the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first rock act to do so in four years.

Since it’s UK release, it’s barely been out of the iTunes Top 5, and it finally topped the chart a few weeks back, in the week its parent album ‘Some Nights’ was released.

The band have now unveiled the civil war-themed video for the title track from the new record which will be the second cut to be released later this year and, if you’d written fun. off as a one hit wonder, be ready to eat your words.

Because, if anything, ‘Some Nights’ is a bolder, catchier and a more striking track than its predecessor, upping the stakes when it comes to both style and substance.

Comparisons between the vocals of lead singer Nate Ruess and Freddie Mercury are bound to be uttered, but Jeff Bhasker’s hip hop production influences manage to avert this from being far from a wannabe Queen tribute track.

Set against a backdrop of orchestral strings and rousing percussion, the track is almost anthemic as Ruess blasts out in almost military fashion: “What do I stand for? Most nights I don’t know anymore.”

Whilst ‘We Are Young’ secured the band the first rock single to top the US Billboard Hot 100 in four years, ‘Some Nights’ will undoubtedly cement them as one of the most intriguing and exciting new bands to emerge from the States in recent years.
