Muse: Survival (Official Music Video)

Muse have unveiled their video for new single ‘Survival’ which received its premiere on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show last week.

The track is the official song for the London 2012 Olympic Games and has a lovely one and a half minute prelude before kicking in to sheer noise.

“I’ll light the fuse. And I’ll never lose. I choose to survive whatever it takes…” frontman Matt Bellamy sings.

It is very much all about winning and definitely not losing. But surely it’s the taking part that counts? Ahem.

The clip is a nicer addition and features memorable footage of key sporting events in the Games’ history.

In comparison to previous official Olympics themes, I’m definitely not keen. In fact, it’s a total racket and not what you’d expect from a band who are capable of greatness.

My main gripe is that it lacks the emotional impact of the Atlanta double of ‘96, my favourite year to date. Celine Dion singing ‘Power Of The Dream’. Gloria Estefan hitting that massive note in ‘Reach’. I much prefer their aspirational messages.

But then, that’s probably because I was always the third placed person who insisted that it was the taking part that counts.
