Little Mix: Wings (Official Lyric Video)
Little Mix have revealed the lyric video for their new single phenomesong, ‘Wings’.
It is very brilliant in many different ways.
The verses make your whole body shift in rhythm. If this came on your iPod when you were on the bus, you’d find it very difficult not to bumshuffle. Toe tapping is a standard.
There are double choruses as showcased previously by Girls Aloud, preceded by a bit that slows the verses down but only to ramp it up again. It goes:
“Your words don’t mean a thing. I’m not listening. Keep talking. All I know is…”
Then you get in to the defiant “Mama told me not to waste my life…” chorus opener. Which is a lot more specific than her telling you not to come. Ahem.
There is a marching band outro.
There are lots of vocal gymnastics that don’t rely on autotune and help to make the song sound very organic. There are shades of Beyoncé and Aguilera in there.
‘Wings’ will be released on 22 August and is the follow up to the X Factor winners’ chart topping cover of Damien Rice’s ‘Cannonball’. Of course, up until now, we’ve all remembered them for this spectacular En Vogue performance.
This kills even that.
