The Re-view
New Single: Labrinth - Treatment
He is currently riding high in the charts with his current single ‘Express Yourself’ but that’s not stopped UK electronic hip-hop star Labrinth confirming the next cut from his ‘Electronic Earth’ album.
And what’s most surprising and impressive is that, five singles in to the marketing campaign, there is absolutely no sign of waning quality control. That’s despite each single having its own very distinct flavour, whilst simultaneously maintaining a consistent sound.
‘Treatment’ perhaps covers the one area then that the twenty three year old has not yet served up, and that’s the broken heart. The song is as close to a ballad as there is on the Syco-protegé’s record which peaked at #2 on its release in April this year.
“Yeah, I wanna break down. You don’t understand the damage you’ve done now,” he sings. “Let me remind you that boys don’t cry. Isn’t it clear that I need treatment.”
It could be the chorus to a love song from any old boyband but the quality production and Labrinth’s ability to tip his hat and straddle any genre thrown at him make this anything but ordinary.
Co-written by Carl Falk, the man behind many a hit these days including two of my Darren Hayes favourites ‘Bloodstained Heart’ and ‘Black Out The Sun’, ‘Treatment’ should easily follow Earthquake, Let The Sun Shine, ‘Last Time’ and ‘Express Yourself’ in to the Top 20.
