The Re-view

New Music Video: Nelly Furtado - Spirit Indestructible

Nelly Furtado has premiered the official music video for ‘Spirit Indestructible’ the second single and title track from her forthcoming album, due out on 17 September.

The inspirational track was debuted just over a week ago when the lyric video was unveiled, featuring the singer’s close friend Spencer West climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

This new clip sees Furtado opening proceedings on a stage until the beats start dropping and she’s transported to the peaks of a snowcapped mountain range and a beach campfire.

You know how everyone raves about Girls Aloud’s ‘Biology’ because it feels like three genius pop songs morphed in to one even greater musical triumph? It feels like there is something here along that vein, as the track trips from heartfelt balladry to tribal chanting via a dubstep breakdown.

Not many could pull off such a feat, but Nelly Furtado has managed to find her own spot in the musical landscape taking all of her past musical incarnations and added a little bit of what is popular right now to create something that feels unique to her. Just as she did with the album’s lead cut ‘Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)’ which peaked at #14 earlier this year.

The section that kicks in at 1min 48 is for me one of the greatest moments of the year.
